Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2026

Ferrous & Field Coffee Co. ("Ferrous & Field," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website at ferrousandfield.com and the roastery at 1714 W Main St, Richmond, Virginia. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site, place an order, or sign up for our newsletter, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain language. If anything's unclear, email hello@ferrousandfield.com.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to sell you coffee and stay in touch:

  • Order information. Your name, shipping and billing address, email, and phone number when you place an order. Payment card details are entered directly with our payment processor — we never see or store your full card number.
  • Account information. If you create a subscription account, we store your contact details, order history, and roast preferences.
  • Newsletter information. Your email address (and optionally your first name) when you subscribe to Field Notes.
  • Messages. Anything you send us through the contact form, by email, or over the phone.
  • Automatic information. Basic analytics such as your browser type, device, approximate location, and which pages you view, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

2. Cookies

Our site uses cookies — small text files stored by your browser — to keep your shopping cart working, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. We use:

  • Essential cookies that make the cart and checkout function. The site won't work properly without these.
  • Analytics cookies that help us see which coffees and pages people look at, so we can improve the site. These are aggregated and don't identify you personally.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site (like checkout) may not work correctly if you do. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process, roast, pack, and ship your orders;
  • Send order confirmations, shipping updates, and respond to your questions;
  • Send the Field Notes newsletter, if you've asked for it;
  • Maintain your subscription and account;
  • Understand and improve how our website works;
  • Comply with our legal and tax obligations.

4. How we share it

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the business — our payment processor, shipping carriers, and email and hosting providers — and only to the extent they need it to do their job. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

5. Email and your choices

Every Field Notes email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. We'll still send you transactional emails about orders you've placed. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing hello@ferrousandfield.com; we'll respond within a reasonable time.

6. Data retention & security

We keep order records as long as needed to fulfill orders and meet our legal and accounting obligations, then delete or anonymize them. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

7. Children

Our site and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date at the top of the page. Significant changes will be noted in the Field Notes newsletter.
